Why we don’t discount Cliniko

Everyone loves a discount, but they’re not something that we’ve ever offered at Cliniko. There are a few reasons for this.

Aisling Smith·

With the cost of living on the rise everywhere and many people feeling the financial pinch, we understand why folks sometimes ask us for a discount on their Cliniko subscription. But we’ve never offered discounts on our subscription pricing and there are a few reasons for this.

1Fairness

This is the primary reason why we don’t discount subscriptions. For us, everyone paying the same amount to use Cliniko feels like the option with the most integrity and equity.

While discounts can seem like a nice perk, they often end up being unfair in practice. For example, they’re commonly given to lure a prospective customer away from a competitor or sway someone who’s thinking about leaving to change their mind. Sometimes they’re advertised as “limited offers” to encourage spikes of sign ups to make the internal numbers look good. In short, loyal and long-term customers often lose out when it comes to promotions.

They also advantage some personality types over others; the people who ask hard enough can often score themselves a much better deal. But we never wanted you to be disadvantaged simply because you’re less vocal or not pushy—no haggling is necessary when it comes to getting the lowest price for Cliniko!

No matter who you are, you’re paying the same rate as anyone else to use Cliniko (with the exception of educational institutions and charities, as we’ll discuss below). Everyone gets the best price for their business size, not just people who ask or who wait for the right time of year. And we hope that’s reassuring.

2We already keep prices low

We try to keep our price as low as possible already. We don’t run our business trying to make the most money that we can—we want Cliniko to be accessible to the people who need it.

Our prices have been static for a long time. Since the day we’ve launched, we haven’t changed our price once in 14 years, despite inflation and all the extra work we’ve done on the system.

Cliniko's price list from 2013...

...and today in 2025.

Using the online calculator offered by the Royal Bank of Australia, if we had adjusted the price of Cliniko to account for inflation over the years, today (in May 2025) the monthly cost for a solo practitioner would be $AUD 62.86, rather than $AUD 45! And the cost of our $AUD 95 plan would be $AUD 132.70 per month. So, in a sense, Cliniko has become more affordable over time. Not only are you effectively paying less to use the software today than you would have when we started, we've continued to develop and release new features without ever increasing the price. This means that you're getting more value to use the software today for the same cost compared to when we first launched in 2011.

3We focus our resources elsewhere

Rather than offering special seasonal discounts to inflate our numbers for an outside investor or obsessing over our promotional strategy, we’re focused on making the best software we can for everyone who uses Cliniko. Regardless of when you joined, how long you’ve been with us, or how many people in your practice, we want to do right by you. For us, this means focusing on security, keeping our system running smoothly behind the scenes, and adding new features that will be useful to as many folks as possible. In short, we want everyone using Cliniko to feel like they're getting good value. Not offering discounts also gives us the financial capacity to make regular charitable donations, which is part of our ethos as well.

Free accounts for registered charities

One exception to this general rule is that we do give registered charities and educational institutions free access to Cliniko. But this isn’t about undercutting loyal paying customers—it’s part of conducting our business in a way that aligns with our values. It’s one way that we can support folks who are forgoing their own profits to help others, especially when we know Cliniko will be able to make a difference to what they’re doing.

We very strongly believe in a "fair pricing" model where everyone knows exactly how much they are paying up front and we’ve always been transparent about costs—being open and honest with you is one of our core values. If you have any questions, please reach out to us. We hope that you love using Cliniko and get enough out of the software to make it a worthwhile addition to your practice, even without that discount.
