Something new is coming: Cliniko redesign

For several years, we’ve been upgrading a lot of the technology behind the scenes at Cliniko—and the end result, Cliniko redesign, is almost ready to launch!

Something new is coming to Cliniko! It’s called Cliniko redesign and is a project that has been in the works for several years. It’ll bring many improvements to your day-to-day experience of using Cliniko, while also allowing our development to iterate more rapidly in future as we’ve completely overhauled a significant portion of our code (which is the technical architecture underpinning Cliniko).

Cliniko has been around since 2011 and from humble beginnings, we now support more than 100,000 people across the world. We want Cliniko to be around for the long haul—we have no investors and no exit plan. Our goal is to provide you with the same security and reliability that we always have, well into the future. These changes we’re making to Cliniko are a way to ensure that the software can keep running for many years to come.

What is Cliniko redesign?

Redesign is an improved version of Cliniko that retains everything you love about the current software, while making it easier to use, faster, and more powerful.

You’ll immediately notice the updates we’ve made to how each page in Cliniko looks, which aren’t just aesthetic changes. As we’ll explain in more detail below, you’ll find many enhancements throughout that will make your day-to-day experience using the software significantly better.

We’ve also made substantial alterations to the code that Cliniko is built on, which will allow our development to iterate at a faster pace in future, as we can now automate many processes that we previously had to do from scratch. So watch this space!

This project initially kicked off because we wanted to upgrade the technology on which Cliniko is built. The way that we originally constructed the platform worked well at the time, but as Cliniko grew over the years, the behind-the-scenes wiring started to become increasingly difficult to update. In order to allow for faster and more stable development in future, we needed to undertake the mammoth task of rewriting a considerable portion of our code. At the same time, we also had plans to change how Cliniko looks and improve the usability, and it made sense to bundle these updates into the project too.

All of this ended up being a bigger undertaking than we’d first anticipated (which is a story for another time), but we’re thrilled that we can now share everything we’ve been working on.

What improvements can I expect?

Cliniko redesign extends what you can do in many helpful ways! Rachel explains just a few of them in the video below.

In summary, some of the key additions you’ll enjoy include:

  • Faster navigation
  • Easier to find actions
  • Customisable tables and lists for your communications, invoices, payments, patients, and more
  • Sorting and filtering options that give you full control of what you view
  • Redesigned patient records, making it much easier to find what you’re looking for

This is just the beginning! You’ll find many more usability improvements spread throughout.

How can I give feedback?

Feedback is greatly appreciated! We want to know your thoughts, and you can provide this within Cliniko itself. These are the instructions you’ll need. While we aren’t able to respond to feedback individually, please know that we read and consider everything we receive.

When is Cliniko redesign launching?

Redesign is coming in the next few weeks! It will initially be available to you as a “beta feature”, allowing you to familiarise yourself with it and provide us with feedback.

We highly recommend you give Cliniko redesign a go. Once the beta version is enabled for your account, you’ll be able to take advantage of all the improvements right away. You can toggle Cliniko redesign on and off as often as you’d like—it’s easy—though we have a hunch you’ll want to keep it switched on! The beta period is a chance for you to move over to it at your discretion before it goes live for everyone.

How can I trial it?

When your practice gets access to Cliniko redesign, a “beta features” icon will show up in the bottom left side of your screen. From there, each user will be able to turn it on per device, so everyone has full control over when they enable it, and can switch it on and off as they wish.

How will the beta rollout work?

We’re planning a staggered release, which means it will be rolled out to a percentage of our customers at a time. We’ll start with a small number of people at first, and then make it increasingly available to more. Our aim is to allow access at a steady pace to ensure every part of the software is working smoothly—and giving us a chance to integrate your comments along the way—before bringing more people across.

We’ll keep you updated on how long the open beta phase will run. Eventually, redesign will be rolled out for everyone and will replace the previous version of Cliniko entirely. We’ll give you plenty of notice before this happens. But you won’t have the option to switch back anymore after that, so we encourage you to use Cliniko redesign as much as possible during the beta period to get used to it and provide us with your feedback so we can keep making it better.
